Richmond

The Charity: ROSMY

The Girl: Kathryn Zapach

ROSMY works with Richmond’s sexual minority youth, and they help people be “themselves”. This is somewhat controversial, but as I like to be an equal opportunist in terms of who charity is spread to, because we are all humans, and all deserving of someone to help us through our personal tribulations. I think this is a unique organization, and one that could help much of the youth in Richmond… deserving of support.

Top Five things to do in Richmond:

Five: Check out the University of Richmond campus- gorgeousness accented by popped collars.

Four: Get some grub, Richmond isn’t a culinary capital, but it has some good ethnic food.

Three: Go on a Richmond Canal walk.

Two: Check out Monument Ave.

One: Go to the capital of Virginia. It has had recent remodeling and additions.

Things I passed on: … well, I’m sure there were plenty of things, just not sure there was anything worth mentioning…

Good places to stay: NA

Richmond’s Ratings. On a scale from 1 to Boston: 3.5

Richmond has a small city feel.

Richmond doesn’t have much going for it (or against it- almost bland in a way), a lot of reasons to be visit, mountains, ocean, or lots of entertainment of any sort.

The story: Richmond is an interesting place in that it is not very interesting at all. They have some history, I guess. Richmond locals would likely disagree, but not passionately. It is definitely a local small city, but I just can’t get a strong feeling about it either way, which might be worse than disliking a place. I feel like it might have potential to become somewhat like a Baltimore, but it just never did. Anyways, I arrived and only spent a little time there, but enjoyed a good Cuban meal (kuba kuba) and meeting up with some old friends. My recommendations and commentary is mostly based on four years of living 40 minutes south of the city, when I would occasionally frequent Richmond. If I had to make a recommendation, I’d say you can pass on this city. However, if you like a city that isn’t a zoo, and has a calm feeling to it, this might be your place. You certainly know you’re in the south, and there is enough to keep you busy, but not much to write home about.
