The Charity: Parenting Project
The Girl: Laura
This is a service that offers parents lessons. Now, all I can say is- about time! As a teacher who has seen the unfortunate households that our students grow up in, this is a very necessary thing and I’m glad there is a project that exists to help the parents.
Top Five things to do in Sacramento (I did a version of all these things):
Five: Old Town Sacramento
Four: Second Saturday (like first Friday in Honolulu)
Three: UC Davis (Farmers Market)
One: Rivercats game
Things I passed on: Visiting the vineyards all around Seattle.
Good places to stay: Queen bed at Chris and Laura’s.
Sacramento’s Ratings. On a scale from 1 to Boston: 8
Sacramento has the all the necessary components for a city, except maybe the actual people. For a city, it is quiet and quaint, yet still has goings on. I classify it as a “local city”.
Sacramento doesn’t have hustle and bustle, huge tourist attractions, reasonable cabs, a lot of rain.
The story: Sacramento was a great place. Someone forgot to tell Sacramento that it is a city, and the capital of one of the largest economies in the world. It couldn’t feel more different, than how it would sound on paper. I arrive late, due to a Jet Blue delay (which I may end up getting $50 voucher for), in Sacramento and make my way for the cabs. I’m going to meet up with Laura on her week early birthday party. The cab cost way too much, and I realized Sacramento was not a “cab” town. They are expensive everywhere, but especially so in SAC town. Despite this invasion of my wallet, I arrive happily at a Bday party, for a reunion of spotswood plus one other wm’er and about 5 other people. It was amazing… there was even a singing of our Alma Mater in true WM arrogant fashion. Anyways, had blast, was the DD on the ride home, and got to crash in my own room with a queen size bed. (alright, I had to share with a cat, but it mostly mine.) Then I visited the much-celebrated Davis farmers market, which was cool- and made my way to Old Town Sacramento. It was nice, but I’m beginning to feel like “old towns” are similar especially if they are on a river/port. Nonetheless it was fun. From there I walked to the capitol, and looked for Arnold, he wasn’t in, but the capitol was worth it anyways. Very cool place to ride a bear. Then, we made our way to Second Saturday, which is identical to First Friday, only in SAC town. It has some really cool art exhibits, and the businesses open their doors to the public. Then, the final and perhaps most fun, event was the second half of the Rivercats came I caught- a SACtown minor league baseball game. It was awesome. Really liked SAC town. This video is a priceless one: special note to the creepy BUNNY man, and the less-man (shirtless, homeless, singing sex machine).
