The Charity: Envision Charter School
The Girl: Naomi Jozovich
Naomi, my former boss and life long friend, works at a charter school in Denver. Her school “gets it”. I met the Principal and the Chief Organization Officer, and they are doing the things other schools need to be: project based learning, emphasis on technology, and addressing the needs of students instead of the needs of states. You should help them.
Top Five things to do in Denver:
Five: Visit the Capital
Four: Go to Coors Field
Three: Check out 16th Street Mall
Two: Go to the aquarium
One: Check out the parks (Denver has some of the most beautiful parks).
Things I passed on: Checking out any of Denver’s sports teams, Visit the US Mint, Spend much time walking around the down town
Good places to stay: With John and Naomi.
Denver’s Ratings. On a scale from 1 to Boston: 7.5
Denver has gorgeous views, mountains galore, parks, and a good vibe.
Denver doesn’t have a ocean, history, or many big attractions.
The story: I arrived in Denver, and started the day off right- watching the Patriots beat the Falcons with two good friends Naomi and John. After that, and a good meal I went to one of my favorite places in the world… REI- and in Denver they are BIG. However, apparently there is a bigger one in Seattle, but I still love the REI here. It has a park right next to it, which we perused for a while, and ate some delicious candy. Then we decided it was time to get some more grub at a delicious noodle bar, where I made $5 on a bet that a ginormous rice crispy treat couldn’t be eaten in one bite. Good times had by all. After that we went to one of the nicest community recreational centers I’ve ever seen- I mean this thing had a lazy river, a water slide, a spring board, two hot tubs, a steam room, a lap pool- and that was just in the aquatics area. It was a good time, I got my racquetball on. Then we had to go load 700 lbs of rock into the back of John’s truck so he could do some landscaping in his yard, which only resulted in a few minor injuries for the two of us combined. After that it was time for dinner at very decent Mexican restaurante and a movie to cap off a great day in Denver.
Don't forget to open your hearts to Envision Leadership Prep (and you're wallets).
