Top Five things to do in New Orleans:

Five: Eat at Jacques-Imo’s

Four: Eat at Café Du Monde

Three: Eat some Gumbo

Two: Eat some Jambalaya

One: Eat a Po-Boy

Things I passed on: Gambling at Harrahs, and so much more, New Orleans in an original sin city where you could be entertained for days.

Good places to stay: Anywhere Colleen Murray is.

New Orleans’ Ratings. On a scale from 1 to Boston: 8.9

New Orleans; has everything but rule of law, a football team that is on fire, humidity, and a great time for all who come.

New Orleans’ doesn’t have rule of law, mountains, and cleanliness.

The story: Some things you have to understand about New Orleans, it is a lawless society in all the right ways, it is anarchy at its best, it is a developing city in a developed country, and quite possibly the best place to get that “third world feel” in the first world. I LOVED IT! Honestly, am thinking about moving there. I’ve never felt so safe in a place that had earned the title “murder capital of the world”. So, that was my unbiased pitch for New Orleans… it actually is as awesome as you’ve heard.

My trip to New Orleans started with greatness before I even got near Louisiana. I met the wired.com “all you can jetter” on the airplane from Portland Maine to JFK, and we met up. He is going to interview me, and do a feature on wired.com about some of us “all you can jetters”. Then I arrive in NOLA and am welcomed by a group of people that can only be described as my best friends in New Orleans. We head straight out to Jacques-Imo’s and have some of the most delicious food I’ve eaten. Alligator and crawfish(?) cheese cake, short ribs, lamb, red beans and rice, just delicious food. Then, even though it was a Thursday night and everyone had work they all rallied to go out for drinks, I felt so special. (Except for Matt Taylor, who bailed, because he had “things to take care of”. Lame Matt.) Well that night lasted much longer than I had expected it to (which I hear is standard for nights in nawlin’s), and included pool, live music, and variety of other entertaining stops. Finally we ended with some Café Du Monde, and delicious beignets. Then a nap, and I went to brunch at a place called Camellia Grill. Highly recommend it, the shakes are delicious. From there one miss Colleen Murray decided it was time for a stroll in the parks- Audubon and the Fly- Daiquiri’s in hand of course- mine being virgin. Then we head to, you guessed it, get more food. I ate 7 different dishes at this lunch, I had oysters 4 or 5 different ways, a po boy, gumbo, jambalaya, etc., It was quite literally New Orleans on a dish. Then I ended by visiting the original home of the Hurricane, Pat O’Briens (I think), and headed to the airport.

Donate to this charity, I know it is not well explained, but let me sum it up. A TFA alum is doing his part to save the 9th ward.

  1. Thanks for the external donation link. :)
I have another random request/suggestion...could you number your city entries? (e.g. New Orleans Day 16).
